There are many things to do in The Woodlands, TX with your family. Keeping kids entertained can be exhausting. If you are looking for entertainment that will keep your kids happy and away from the gaming system for a few hours, The Woodlands, Texas has a lot to offer.

Living in the Woodlands, TX, there are plenty of activities that will keep your child engaged, active and entertained. With theaters, parks, museums and pools, there is plenty to keep the entire family entertained all year round.

Active Activities and Parks

Wonderwild Woodlands

This indoor playground is a great way to let your little ones blow off some steam, even when the weather is less than ideal. The indoor area features a jungle gym area, a crocodile themed slide and even a party room for birthday kids. There is a charge to get in for children over 9 months old, siblings under 9 months and adults are free. Wonderwild Woodlands is at the top of the list for great things to do in The Woodlands, TX.

Riva Row Boat House

Located at the west end of the Woodlands Waterway, the park where this boat house is located connects the upper and lower levels of the waterway. Riva Row Boat House offers kayak rentals and you can spend a day on the Waterway and even grab a snack at the concession stand afterward. The boat house was designed not only for function by also to appeal to sculptural aesthetics. The Riva Row Boat House is part of a 1.6 acre park.

YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center

With plenty of open space and lots of adventure, kids will burn off energy by the buckets at this outdoor activity. The YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center includes a huge 30-foot swing an inflatable waterside, an elevated boardwalk (ranging from 8 and 20 feet off the ground), 12 themed treehouses, hiking, archery, outdoor chapel, and a 50-foot tower for climbing. Kids can also participate in activities like canoeing and swimming. The YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center offers many things to do in The Woodlands, TX, especially with your family.

The Woodlands Childeren's Museum

This is an excellent choice for someplace safe and easy to move around when taking the little grands out for an adventure. Safety precautions ensure no one walks away with your little one, and the enclosed areas ensure the kids stay where they should. There is plenty of room for exploration, plenty of things to fascinate a young mind. I recommend this for a great rainy day activity.

The Koi Gardens

Located on the south side of the Woodlands Waterway, this koi pond and garden are set on two small islands that are accessible via pedestrian bridge. The garden features a 60,000 gallon koi pond, exotic plants, decorative walls and fences as well as Asian vegetation. The pond includes Japanese-imported Koi and are bright, colorful and fun for kids to watch. Kids will enjoy learning about different plants and flowers in the garden.

Hughes Landing

The best little secret of The Woodlands is Hughes Landing.  A super mix of business and pleasure on 66 acres.  On Restaurant Row, a pedestrian friendly street, you can find something to do from sun up to sun down.  Start with a hot Starbucks and end with a sweet wine at Local Pour,  In between, grab a good meal at one of the following favorites, Escalates, Trulucks, Del Frisco's Grill and even Fogo De Chao.

The Woodlands Mall

If shopping is an essential part of your travel itinerary, you can’t miss a trip to The Woodlands Mall. Nearly 200 big-name department stores, fashion boutiques, and specialty shops reside within the two-story mall, making it one of the premier shopping destinations in the Houston area. Stores like Dillard’s and Nordstrom mix and mingle with Banana Republic, Fossil, and The Lego Store, giving you plenty of ways to get your shopping fix. As you stroll from one store to another, you’re probably going to work up a pretty hefty appetite. Fortunately, you have plenty of great choices. For a quick bite, head to the food court for some stir fry or a cheeseburger. If you’re in the mood for a heartier meal, get a table at Bonefish Grill, The Cheesecake Factory, or any of the other four full-service restaurants in the mall.

Run, Hike, or Bike in The Woodlands

As it turns out, The Woodlands is as much of a place for you outdoorsy folks as it is for those who appreciate great shopping and fine dining. In fact, The Woodlands has something that few other places do: about 200 miles of trails that weave throughout the town. Many of these trails are separate from the town’s major roads, meaning that you can walk, jog, or bike in safety. Since these pathways are interconnected, it’s possible to go on much longer runs without needing to worry about traffic.

Not only are these trails well suited for exercise, they are a fine way to enjoy the scenic beauty of The Woodlands. As you walk, run, or bike, you’ll pass more towering pine trees than you can count, and you might even see a blue jay or a cardinal resting nearby. All told, the trails in The Woodlands provide a safe and scenic place to work up a sweat – a must do while you’re in town.
